History of the Lodge

Authentic Edwardian Mansion

Opened in 2004, the Lodge which is built on a level site perched on top of a hill - takes in 360° views of Lake Karapiro, the Waikato River, mountain ranges and some of New Zealand's richest and most lush farmland. 

The magnificent and awe-inspiring views captured owners Ed and Ann Rompelberg's imagination and thus a dream was born.  Ed is a qualified engineer and draftsman and undertook the massive task of this design and build with the help of some hand-picked craftsmen.  Ed and Ann (with 25 years of experience in hospitality) visualized the substantial Edwardian mansion that now soaks in the million dollar views and is shared with discerning travellers the world over.

No expense has been spared and the couples uncompromising quest for quality and authenticity has delivered charm in substantial proportions.  It was a labour of love, the build taking 2 years to complete.  Ed and Ann's choice of textures and restful tones have indeed created a relaxing and tranquil atmosphere.
